Job Description: The incumbent will serve as the Staff Clinical Veterinarian for the McGowan Institute Preclinical Studies Center. As the clinical veterinarian the incumbent must have specific interest in, and motivation for, large animal biomedical research and device assessment. Specific skill sets of the incumbent include large animal surgery, anesthesia and post-operative (ICU care). Background in cardiovascular physiology, surgical and interventional radiology skills are desired, as well as familiarity with FDA and GLP guidelines. It is expected that the incumbent will have 30% administrative duties and 70% clinical duties. The ability to work with the technical and administrative staff of the McGowan Preclinical Studies Center and the human clinicians who support the Center is essential. As a full time member, and a bridge between customers, external technical/clinical specialists and the Center staff, the incumbent must be able to help organize and motivate multidisciplinary teams.
REQUIREMENTS: Trained as a DVM or RVT with advanced post-graduate training in surgery, anesthesia, or critical care medicine. Minimum of 3-5 years experience in a pre-clinical animal research environment or equivalent.
